An alias is almost like an email forwarder.
For example, lets say your main inbox is hello@yourdomain.au but you also want to receive emails from jane@yourdomain.au
This lets people email you from either email, and all the messages go to the one inbox.
You cannot send email from the Jane inbox, so your reply would come from the hello@yourdomain.au email in this case.
